“It is no use to blame the looking glass if your face is awry.” Russian Proverb
With each choice we make comes consequences. Despite it being easy to blame circumstances outside ourselves if we are not happy this is not helpful. First, it is not grounded in reality. Usually we have played some part in our current difficulties. Do not get to down because this is good news!
Since we have played a part in bringing about the difficulties we can play a part in removing them. The key is looking at what is going on, taking an honest appraisal of the situation, and beginning actions needed for current and lasting change.
Responsibility is freeing. It has us take our proper place in the world and work to create the life we want by making certain moves. It is a wonderful thought to remember that we are more powerful than we think. It is possible to fix the core of our problems which usually lie in some patterns of thought and/or behavior. Blaming our lives for our unhappiness is just as unhelpful as blaming the mirror for our hair being out of place.
JOURNAL PROMPTS
1. What are some common complaints you find yourself making regarding your life right now?
2. Take a moment and journal about what part you play in this complaint being present.
GUIDANCE
Remember, there are some situations that are not you’re doing i.e. abusive situations, being treated disrespectfully, or sickness. What is your part being what you do with these difficulties? How is your response to these difficulties holding you back from advancing with grace? Do you need more support in overcoming these obstacles? If so, go about getting it from friends, family, and/or professionals.
